Current answer
GRAIN ROT is a released Windows game; Patch 1.07 adds the public server browser.
Steam lists a full release on August 7, 2026. Seven launch-week patches followed, with Patch 1.07 adding public servers, more host settings, password protection, and broader friend joins.
The current reviewed official sequence runs through Patch 1.07. The game is not labeled Beta or Early Access, and public multiplayer is now an in-game option rather than only an external LFG workflow.
Before 1.0
The official history records a playtest-to-demo transition—not a public Beta label.
On June 12, the developer announced that the playtest had officially ended and that everyone was moving to the public demo. The reviewed lifecycle sources do not call either stage a Beta or publish a Beta build number.
Playtest and demo are the developer's own lifecycle terms. This page keeps those labels instead of rewriting the pre-release period as a Beta.
Patch sequence
Patch 1.07 is the current official state in the reviewed feed.
Launch blockers
Pickup fixes, offline saves, client visibility, object state, a client-only bunker door, black-void loads, and keybinding persistence were addressed.
Sessions and ownership
Client items should be recovered when leaving; blocked respawns, balcony fire, lobby privacy, player count, mic volume, and kick/ban controls were changed.
Targeted fixes
Friend joins under friends privacy, missing localization, Quill's fire path, legendary gumball rewards, and incoming-connection security were addressed.
Public server browser
Public servers, more host settings, password protection, broader friends-of-players joins, and a new Deep Layers hat were added.
Patch notes are developer fix claims, not proof that every existing save, chest, door, network path, or edge case is resolved. The pickup status and Ancient Vault status preserve the report-level boundaries.
Post-launch roadmap
The Deep Layers Update is planned for September; the third Outpost floor is planned for October.
- Within one month: a batch of new Constructs and one new Vessel.
- September: the Deep Layers Update, planned with one biome and several enemies.
- October: a Halloween update planned to open the third Outpost floor and add a new questline.
- Between updates: fixes, performance work, balance changes, and quality-of-life updates.
The developer describes flexible monthly goals rather than fixed dates. Planned content should not be written as live content until a release note confirms it.
Platform status
Windows through Steam is the only confirmed launch platform.
- Windows: supported through Steam; each co-op player needs a copy.
- Gamepads: supported in the 1.0 feature list.
- macOS and Linux: the developer FAQ says there are no plans for either platform.
- Steam Deck: not Verified and not guaranteed by the developer.
No reviewed official source confirms a PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, cross-play, or console-release roadmap. Absence from current sources is not proof that those versions can never happen.
Declared 1.0 scope
The official release list is substantial—and specific.
- Encounters: new enemies, a boss encounter, elite encounters, and two new biomes.
- Progression: player leveling, Spark abilities, legendary gachas, new items, hats, and an enchantment and repair machine.
- Outpost: a second floor, new NPCs, more Constructs, and additional progression space.
- Run structure: a complete 1.0 quest flow, new elevator modifiers, balance work, gamepad support, expanded settings, and optimization.
Source conflict
“Full release” is official status; “enough content” is a player judgment.
The developer calls the game complete and lists a complete 1.0 quest flow. One two-player report says the crew reached roughly level six in 9.5 hours, saw two floors, and could not finish a questline. That report may indicate a bug, missed progression, or a content-depth complaint; it does not identify which.
The later roadmap makes clear that more floors, biomes, enemies, Constructs, a Vessel, and quest content are planned. Future expansion does not retroactively change the official 1.0 lifecycle label.
