GRAIN ROT Beginner Guide & Walkthrough

Start with the elevator loop, protect the crew state, return with the haul, and turn the first run into persistent Outpost progress.

The short answer

Your first objective is not maximum loot. It is learning the return trip.

GRAIN ROT is a co-op extraction horror builder. Your crew descends by elevator, scavenges shifting ruins, survives inside fragile wooden vessels, and tries to return with enough value to improve a persistent Outpost.

VERIFIED MECHANIC

The official game description confirms that a full-crew break loses the haul, while successful returns feed Outpost furniture, stat upgrades, and rescued survivors.

The five-part loop

Read the run as a chain of decisions.

  1. 01

    Descend together

The cursed elevator is both your route into the Deep Layers and the landmark that frames the return journey.

  2. 02

    Turn rooms into value

Furniture can be smashed for resources or fed into the Grinder for gold. The useful question is what your crew can safely convert and carry.

  3. 03

    Protect the crew state

Corrupted vessels react to sound, movement, and one another. A broken body does not immediately remove its Spark, but it changes what that player can do.

  4. 04

    Choose the return

The deeper you push, the worse the Rot becomes. Extraction timing is the decision that turns scavenged value into persistent progress.

  5. 05

    Build for the next run

Back at the Outpost, recovered value unlocks persistent improvements and makes another descent possible.

A safe learning plan

Give the first three runs one job each.

TACTICAL INTERPRETATION

This is a learning sequence inferred from the confirmed loop, not an official optimal route.

RUN 01

Map the loop

Stay close enough to recognize the elevator route, observe what breaks a vessel, and return with any haul.

RUN 02

Test crew roles

Let one player call the retreat, one watch crew state, and the others test how quickly rooms turn into value.

RUN 03

Push one step deeper

Change one variable: depth. Keep the rest of the plan stable so the crew can tell what increased the risk.

Do not assume yet

New-release details need proof.

  • Do not treat a community loadout as a permanent tier list.
  • Do not publish exact drop rates without a verifiable source and sample.
  • Do not assume every vessel has the same role or ability set.
  • Do not invent redeem codes; no official code system was verified for this site version.

Choose the next question

Continue with the system your first run exposed.
